Falkirk FC Graves - Patrick Docherty 1910 to 1985

As some of you may have noticed there is no real point of this blog, I just know a lot of 'stuff' about Falkirk FC and the club's former players and did not see the point of keeping it all locked away in my hard drive. And since I am certainly too lazy to knuckle down to write a book I share it here, bit by bit, when I get round to it to let anyone who is vaguely interested look when they want.

As noted a couple of posts ago about Pat Murphy, a lot of time is spent in cemetaries [not just for research: they are very peaceful places] so I know a lot of graves of former Falkirk players and I usually take a picture on my phone, so here is a new strand of posts, gravestones of former Falkirk players.

I must admit though that this one was sent to me by Paul Doherty, a Dundee United fan who researches the history of King's Park, the pre-WWII team from Stirling, thanks.

Patrick Docherty

Bannockburn Cemetary

Patrick was a left-half signed from Juniors Croy Celtic at the start of 1935 at the same time as Falkirk legend Kenny Dawson, but never really had many opportunies in what was to be the season of Falkirk's first ever relegation from Division 1. He was given more of a go the next season with an injury to regular left-half James McNair, but never quite managed to convince the management to keep him on when the club bounced straight back up and was allowed to go on a free to Leith Athletic.

Following spells with King's Park & Dundee United, injury curtailed his football career, and after serving in the RAF during the war concentrated on his true profession of teaching. He was recorded as being a headmaster [retired] when he died.
